these are pictures from a recent apple picking trip at eplegarten in fitchburg, wi. all the photos were taken with an ISO of 800.

f-stop 5.0; shutter speed 1/4000. i don’t have photoshop yet, but i did use the “enhance” function on iphoto to brighten the colors a bit.

f-stop 6.3; shutter speed 1/1250.

f-stop 6.3; shutter speed 1/3200.

i’m on my cool j

here are some pics i took of the grieves and budo show last weekend at the frequency. i had a really hard time getting the lighting and focus right, so i pretty much just messed around with various settings until i found stuff that worked. i still have basically no idea what i was doing.

what is a guitar but a box of sound

here are some pics i took today… first attempt at figuring out the self timer function.

ISO: 800, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6

ISO: 800, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6

taken with flash and auto settings. ISO: 100, focal length: 16mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.7
def gonna edit out that flap of skin. ew.

ISO: 800, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6
I think this might be my favorite in this set.

auto, no flash. ISO: 100, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/2, f-stop: 3.6
not diggin the stomach rolls (i can haz photoshop now plz?) but i like the mild blurriness from moving my head, as well as the general color tone.

ISO: 800, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6

ISO: 800, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6
foreground is out of focus but i kinda like it.

auto with flash. ISO: 100, focal length: 15mm, shutter speed: 1/30, f-stop: 3.6
in general i don’t prefer the whiter tone with the flash, but i like the foregrounding effect in this one.

botanical gardens

here are some pics from a recent trip to the botanical gardens with ben:

lens: 14-42; ISO: 800; f-stop: 4.0; shutter speed: 1/320
eventually my plan is to lighten this up a bit, and maybe add some brighter green and yellow shades.

lens: 40-150; ISO: 800; f-stop: 5.2; shutter speed: 1/320

lens: 14-42; ISO: 800; f-stop: 5.0; shutter speed 1/160
on its own, i kind of prefer the first one, but i like that you can actually read some of the tiles in this one. eventually i want to go in and darken some of the text to accentuate it. particularly the “we love you dad” tile.

lens: 14-42; ISO: 800; f-stop: 4.1; shutter speed: 1/400
the only thing i would really want to do with this image is maybe get rid of that one hanging branch.

lens: 40-150; ISO: 800; f-stop: 5.6; shutter speed: 1/320
i might lighten this up a bit…. feels kinda dark.

lens: 40-150; ISO: 800; f-stop: 4.8; shutter speed: 1/250

lens: 40-150; ISO: 800; f-stop: 5.6; shutter speed: 1/800

something new

hey there. since i recently (finally) made the switch over to digital, i thought that a photo blog might be a good way to share my progress and get feedback while i’m fumbling my way through the world of dslrs. i don’t yet have photoshop, so for now my photos will be unedited, but i’m hoping to get on that shit as soon as i can find a few spare dollars.

the camera i’m using is an olympus evolt-510, and until i find some extra money, i’m just using the two kit lenses it came with (14-42mm and 40-150mm). i’m also gonna try getting an adapter to use the lenses from my OM2 film camera, so i’ll let you know if/when those join the rotation.

this digital thing is a whole new world for me, so for realz i’d appreciate any and all commentary/suggestions/criticisms you might have.

so, yeah. hope this is fun for both of us. enjoy!
